Imported labour | Second-round aviation scheme approves 2,982 quotas — ground staff and ramp services lead
The Transport and Logistics Bureau announced on the 11th that vetting of the second-round aviation labour importation scheme has been completed. Applications from 27 companies totalling 2,982 quotas were approved. The job category receiving the most quotas is ground staff with 1,184, followed by ramp service agents with 545; cabin crew workers and tow-tractor drivers each received over 200. A small number of applications did not receive full approval for failing basic requirements.
Third-round details to be announced in due course
The bureau said it will continue regular exchanges with the stakeholder advisory group alongside the Airport Authority, listening to views on the scheme, and will announce details of the third-round application in due course.
AA to subsidise local frontline airport staff transport from May
Separately, as announced at the scheme's launch, the amounts contributed by employers and the Airport Authority for each imported worker will be used to subsidise transport costs for local frontline airport staff. The AA will launch the transport subsidy from May this year, with a monthly budget of around HK$5 million. Eligible recipients must be local frontline airport employees of qualifying companies, working in one of the 10 job categories open to labour importation under the scheme.
